Cherrapunji Tours
Cherrapunji receives world's heaviest rainfall. The region is located at an altitude of 4,500 feet above sea level in Meghalaya. The mountain chains are hid in the clouds. Here the rainfall can be recorded in feet.
Located on the eastern side of India, Cherrapunji has pristine beauty, as these hills are not yet exploited. It is the only state of India that experiences monsoon throughout the year. It is reported that it rains mostly at night. Because of mechanization, there has been a considerable change in the amount of rainfall and the area also suffers scarcity of water.
The vegetation in this area consists of orchids, oranges, pineapples, ferns, and moss. The heaviest rainfall occurs for five long months from May until September. During this period the city streams with small rivulets.
The places to be seen in Cherrapunji are Mawsmai Falls (a bewitching spectacle), Khasi Monoliths (stones in memory of their ancestors) and views of Orchids blooming.
