Tribal Tours to Mizoram

People living in Mizoram are known as Mizos. The Mizo population is divided into numerous Tribes. Here is a list of some of the popular tribes of this region:

The largest tribe of Mizoram is the Lushai. In Lushai community, courtship was followed freely. The custom of Lushai tribe is very strange. If a boy refuses to marry a girl even after impregnating her, he would be charged forty rupees or else he would give a mithun.

Ralte lived mostly near Champhai. An important figure in Ralte community Mangkhaia got killed while he was in a fight with the Lushai chief. His statue got erected in the hills.

Hmar have association with the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group of tribes. They dwell in the Churachandpur district in Mizoram. The tribe is well known for its valor. Hmars are sturdy, dark complexioned and dark haired people. Hmar tribe is a treasure house of ancient traditions and customs.

Paihte is an ancient tribe initially living in Manipur and Mizoram but now confined to some parts of Mizoram.

Chakma is a non-Mizo tribe residing in Mizoram. There are two groups in Chakma community. Khyangtha were those who lived near rivers (Khyan) and Thangtha were those who lived on hilltops (thang).

The other tribes residing in Mizoram are Poi, Pawi and Rangte. All these tribes have almost similar customs and traditions.
