Agartala is the capital city of Tripura and a commercial town. It was made the capital city by Maharaja Krishna Manikya in the 19th century. The city is rich in flora and fauna. Agartala is located beside Haroa River. It is located at a distance of 1,680 kilometers from Calcutta and 599 kilometers from Gawahati. From Gawahati one can reach Agartala ion one day by road.
The best period for paying visit to Agartala is between the months of October and April. During this period one might experience a refreshing downpour.
Ujjayanta Palace is a major attraction of the town. Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya built the Palace in the Indo-Saracenic style in 1901. With in the precincts there are two temples - Umanneshwar and Jagganath.
Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya built Kunjaban Palace in 1917. The Palace is located at a distance of one kilometer from Ujjayanta Palace.
Neermahal is situated at a distance of 55 kilometers from Agartala. Built in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, the Palace covers an area of about 5.35 square kilometers. The splendid building depicts a blend of Hindu and Mughal styles.
