Haridwar Tours

Located on the right bank of river Ganga at the base of Shivalik ranges in the Uttaranchal state is one of the holiest cities of India - Haridwar. Haridwar literally means "gateway to the abode of the Gods" (Hari-meaning god and Dwar meaning gate). Destinationindiatourism.com takes you to the tour of this divine and spiritual place through its Haridwar Tours.

According to a legend King Bhaghirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to saint Kapil's curse. Happy with Bhaghirath, river Ganga descended on the earth and its water revived the sons of king Sagara.

The famous Kumbh and Ardh-Kumbh fairs are held here every 12 and 6 years respectively. According to legend drops of nectar obtained from Sagar Manthan (churning of ocean) fell at four different places of Haridwar, Allahbad, Ujjain and Nashik. Kumbh fair is held in these four sacred places every four year.

The evening arti at Har ki Pauri (foot steps of lord Vishnu) is a divine sight, which should not be missed at any cost. The golden reflection of the Arti flames, at the time of Arti, on the holy Ganga River is an enchanting and divine experience. It is believed that a dip in the holy waters of Ganga not only refreshes and purifies the mind, body and soul but also helps in attaining Nirvana. The Ghat was built by Vikramaditya in the memory of his brother Bharthari, who is said to have meditated on the banks of river Ganga. It is also known as Brahmakund and the imprints of lord Vishnu can be seen here.

Hindu devotees throng the place in large numbers to take a dip in the holy waters of river Ganga to get rid of their sins. Haridwar a sacred place in India is one of the most preferred pilgrimage places of India which is visited at least once by all Hindus in there lifetime.
