A major tourist attraction Ranikhet is situated in the Almora district of Uttaranchal state in the northern part of India. It is a place with divine feel and captivating weather. Beautifully placed by nature amidst the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains, Ranikhet is a treat for the eyes.
Named after a Queen (Ranikhet literally means queen's field) it is a beautiful place with panoramic view and peaceful environs. According to the popular belief Ranikhet got its name when Rani Padmini queen of Raja Sukherdev the local ruler saw the place and was so captivated by the beauty of the place that she decided to stay there and hence the name Ranikhet. Discovered by Lord Mayo in 1869 and developed as a cantonment, Ranikhet (now houses kumaon regiment) is situated at an altitude of 1829 meters above sea level.

How to reach Ranikhet?
By Air: The nearest airport from Ranikhet is at Pantnagar.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is at Kathgodam. There is an overnight train (Ranikhet Express) from Delhi till Kathgodam from where you can take a cab to reach your destination.
By Road: Ranikhet is eight hours drive from Delhi via Moradabad and Haldwani.
Ranikhet is connected to major parts of India via a large rail and road network. The place can be visited any time of the year but the best time to visit the place is from April to June and September to October. You can carry light woolens with you in the summer season because the nights here are colder even in summers.
