Indian Painting Styles
Indian art and architecture has been the centre of attraction since ancient times. Paintings capture the beauty forever. Being a work of art, Paintings are immortal. Since ages various styles of paintings have been emerged due to the interaction of cultures. In olden times, paintings served a purpose. The walls of the caves were painted to communicate one's feelings. There were specific symbols for various words. The paintings of Ajanta and Ellora caves are an example of such type.
In India following styles were introduced:
Madhubani Paintings
The art of Madhubani Paintings originated in Mithila region of Bihar. These paintings are based on the tribal motifs and are made by the use of bright earthy colors. Earlier these paintings were done on freshly plastered mud walls. Today even paper, cloth, canvas etc. are painted. There is a specific brush used for these paintings. Wrapping cotton on a bamboo stick makes the brush. These paintings depict Hindu deities such as Siva, Krishna, Rama, Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Sun and Moon, Tulsi plant, court scenes, wedding scenes, social happenings etc. It is taken care that no space is left and the gaps are filled with floral and animal images.
Rajasthan paintings
Rajasthan has a rich artistic tradition. Mughals, Chaurapanchasika and many other traditions influenced these paintings and there emerged different schools of paintings like the Mewar School, the Bundi-Kota Kalam, the Jaipur, Bikaner, Kishengarh and Marwar schools. Rajasthani paintings depict their distinguished and fascinating styles. These paintings concentrate more on natural environment like desert, hills, valleys, forts and gardens. It also includes scenes from the life of Lord Krishna.
Thanjavur Paintings
During the reign of the Marathas, a new school of paintings originated in Thanjavur in the 16th century. These paintings feature a deity with a well-rounded body and almond shaped eyes. For making the paintings attractive gems are used to highlight ornaments and dresses etc.
