Amritsar Pilgrimage Tours

Amritsar is derived from a combination of two words 'amrit' (nectar of immortality) and 'Sarovar' (pool). The city is dominated by Sikh Community and houses many important pilgrimages of Sikhs. Destinations India Tourism takes you on an online tour to various Pilgrim places in and around Amritsar.

Harmandir Sahib also known as Darbar Sahib , Golden Temple, Hari Mandir is the most visited sacred Sikh pilgrimage. Harmandir means Temple of God. Fourth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Ram Das, founded the temple.

To the south of the Golden Temple is the tower of Baba Atal. The Gurudwara is an octagonal structure having nine storyes. He brought the dead son of a widow to life. Guru Hargobind rebuked him. He went to into a meditative trance and soon breathed his last. In the Gurudwara of Baba Atal throughout day eatables are distributed. This has become a well known saying "Baba Atal Pakkiyan Pakaiyan Ghal" means Baba Atal sends prepared meals.

Goindwal Sahib Gurudwara has 84 steps that lead to a deep well (bauli). Whosoever takes a bath in this well and recites Japji Sahib at each step attains moksh and is able to get out of the cycle 0f 84,00,000 birth representing each specie created by God.

There are many other Gurudwaras like Khadur Sahib, Baba Bakala, Dera Baba Nanak, Gurudwara Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodi, Gurudwaras at Kiratpur Sahib, Gurudwara Charan Kamal, Gurudwara Shish Mahal Sahib and Gurudwara Damadama Sahib and lots more…

Durgiana Temple or Lakshmi Narain Temple is another famous pilgrim place. It is located in Durgiana Complex. The temple is set amidst holy waters. The Temple derives its name from a Hindu Deity Goddess Durga.
