Dwarka Pilgrimage Tours

Lord Krishna created Dwarka. It is located on the west coast of Gujarat on the shore of the Arabian Sea. It is believed that Lord Krishna ruled his kingdom from here. It is the place where Lord Vishnu slew the demon, Shankhasura. One of the 12 Jyotirlingas is manifested in this place and is known as Nageshwar Mahadev.

The major attraction of Dwarkadish temple is the 2,500 year old Jagat Mandir or Nij Mandir. The Temple has a special hall for audience. 60 columns support the roof of the hall and the temple is raised to five storeys.

The most famous temple in Dwarka is that of Rukmini, Krishna's wife, also believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Among four popular Maths established by Jagatguru Shankaracharya - one of the Math, Sharad Peetha is also located here.

According to the Legend, after slaying Kansa, Krishna traveled with entire Yadava community to the coast of Saurashtra where he founded a town and named it Swarnadwarika. He declared this town to be their new dwelling place.

It is believed that Lord Krishna's successor and great grandson Vajranabh built the present temple Dwarkanath (Trilok Sundar). It is also believed that the temple was erected in one night by a supernatural agency under Vajranabh's direction. While dying Lord Krishna ordered that the city should be vacated so that the sea could engulf it. Till date Lord Krishna's city lies buried under the sea. Excavations have reported that the sea swallowed five settlements and the present-day Dwarka is the sixth in line.
