Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
Kailash Mansarovar shines like a jewel in the crown of Himalayas. It is a snowcapped holy mountain on the remote western Tibetan Plateau (in the northern most region of the Himalayas). It is also called as Kang Rinpoche and Mount Meru.
Many pilgrims from all over the world visit this mountain to walk around the 32-mile circumference of this Peak. This is also called Parikrama in Hindu culture and Kora in Tibetan culture. Taking a round of the mountain would purify your sins of lifetime. It is believed that Lord Shiva resides atop this mountain.
For the Jains this mountain is very sacred as their first prophet gained enlightenment here only. Jains call it Asthapada.
Hindus believe that mount Meru is the Gateway to heaven. It is the centre of the universe. In Mahabharata, it is mentioned that after the victory, Pandavas along with Draupadi climbed Meru to reach heaven.
Four major rivers of India flow through Mount Kailash: the Indus, the Brahmaputra, the Karnali and the Sutlej. Lake Mansarovar or Tso Rinpoche located Eighteen miles southeast of Kailash is a place that provides spiritual benefit. Devout Hindus believe that the icy waters of this Lake possess miraculous healing powers.
The terrain of the Kailash Mansarovar is very rugged. One needs to take some precautions while undertaking pilgrimage.
