Tirupati Tirumala Temple is also known as Tirupati Balaji Temple. The Temple is dedicated to Sri Venkateshwara. It is located on the seventh peak Venkatachala of the Tirupati Hill on the southern banks of the River Pushkarini. Venkateshwara is also called the Lord of seven Hills.

It is written in the history that rulers of famous dynasties paid visit to this ancient shrine of Tirupati Tirumala Temple. These rulers endowed the temple with rich offerings. During the reign of Vijaynagar Kings the contributions to the Temple increased.
In Varah Purana it is mentioned that while Vishnu came to reside on the Southern Bank of the Swami Pushkarini, Adi Varaha manifested Himself on the western bank of the Swami Pushkarini.
